Let's have a warm welcome please for our new addition, an American Curl named Shantung Carolina Moon - or "Freya" as her daddy called her.

It's a sad story - her former owner, and cat breeder, had a three pack a day habit for most of his life. Last year he had to have one lung removed and when I visited him in hospital, he told me it was his wish for us to care for Freya 'when the time comes'. Sadly the time came too soon and he lost the battle to Cancer last Saturday. Freya went to get spayed (she bore one litter of 5 beautiful kittens about a year and a half ago) and on Friday afternoon - just hours before his death - I brought her home to live with us.
This marks the third death in my immediate circle in the last month - the previous two being my aunt; my mother's younger sister. Who left neither my mum nor me one red cent, but that's another story completely! My poor mother feels the loss very badly and has been extremely depressed and tearful.
And the first tragedy to happen was losing my cousin - also my Godfather - to a traumatic accident in which he was a passenger. He lingered in a semi coma on life support for 5 weeks, before passing on. I have not had the heart to tell my mother of this, she was very close to him and it would simply be too much for her to bear. He lived in the UK, so we had not seen him in a very long time.
For the time being, Freya, our new little cat friend, is a great solace and we enjoy watching her making herself at home here, exploring all nooks and crannies and being loving and sitting on our laps cautiously.
