In a Cottonwool Bubble

:star: Battling the Flu :star:

The flu/cold is hanging on and coughing hurts my chest and I have to yawn every so often to unpop my ears; they keep going in and out of focus, but mainly everything is muffled and rather blah...  I've got those panda bear rings under my eyes.

So : more strikes and petrol is running out.  I have huge mileage to cover every week; what with the daily school run and visiting my ageing mother out at the frail care home she's at.  It's a long way to drive, and I'm currently just topping up petrol at the end of every day, just to have as full a tank as possible.

The rain continues; the neighbours' un-neutered boy cats are still looking for food in our garden and I'm in desperate need of a HUGE hard-drive for external storage of photo files.  It's becoming a total nightmare to source something I took, say, early last year which is not housed on my current computer, but burned to a DVD.  They are all filed in date order, but I search for my photos via their numbers and it all becomes really clunky going through tons and tons of discs, waiting for them to load, searching through their contents, ejecting them and popping in the next, waiting for that to be 'seen' by the machine and going through the whole process again.

If anybody has a great system for file storage & retrieval, PLEASE would you let me know?  It isn't called DAMN (well, DAM - Digital Asset Management) for nothing.  Damn indeed.

So in a month's time it should be turning to Spring !  Already some confused trees are sending out fresh green leaves and pretty blossoms, but our current weather is still too cold and wet for them to prevail.  Most beautiful are the fresh sprouting leaflets (is that the word for small leaves) on oak trees!  Very gorgeous against the otherwise bare branches.

Going there for the long weekend? Maybe - hopefully - by then they might have resolved their issues.

yes -- the long weekend -- here at the University -- its a campus holiday on Friday -- so 4 day weekend -- i just heard on the news that the strike is over -- and hopefully by this evening -- the major highways should have garages filled with enough to carry the people for the long weekend --

what are you going to be up to for the "long weekend" -- later days

Yes : relief about the strike being over! No ideas yet; my daughter just informed me that her friend is going to be 'farmed out' and staying with us, while her parents are up-counrty somewhere. This is the first I've heard of it, and obviously changes the perspective slightly. Still to be confirmed.

Anyway - drive safely, take camera and have a great time!

It's not even a question of the petrol prices dropping - currently the workers at the refinery are striking, which is why the pumps are running dry, and that is our big current problem :-(

Thanks for the good wishes

oh, that sounds even more serious :(

It is, rather. Very worrying and could have serious repercussions on the economy as a whole :-(
