Down The Black Hole

Tue Jan 9, 2007, 1:32 AM
:star: Into The Abyss :star:

As a Christmas present to myself I had a canvas print made.  First time ever, rather pricey and the result was very pleasing.  Usually the lab sends off the canvas for stretching & mounting and returns it as a complete job, but it being Christmas holidays, the framing company was shut until yesterday and I was given the canvas loosely rolled up into brown paper.

So today I went to look for the canvas to take it in for the mounting job, only to find it missing and completely GONE.  Then I remembered my husband having gone on a tidying binge... phoned him at work, and after much "I haven't got a clue" stuff from him, it transpired that the one place to look might be in a box in the garage.

Sure enough... stuffed in amongst all manner of other cr@p, there was my expensive canvas print, with two large creases folded into it.  My daughter, acting on previous advice, sprayed it with water mist in order to straighten it out... but the printing ink reacted and it's gone all wavy and blotchy and bye-bye canvas print.  I'm pretty grumpish about it all.  Hrrmph.

Here's a photo I took yesterday in one of the local fishing harbours - it feels quite appropriate

Sea Circle

  • Mood: Defeated
  • Listening to: builders down the road thumping and chipping
  • Eating: humble pie... why am I so untidy?
  • Drinking: Tea... always tea!

that kinda stuff would really annoy me too...we used to make canvass prints..in photo labs with the color resin coated ( plastic ) photo papers and..with a heat machine peel the emulsion layer off the paer base then...drymount that thin layer onto the canvass..and then drymount that onto 1/4 inch masonite board...followed by spraying it with photographic clear coat..in customers choice of matte, pebble, or gloss finish the "pebble" was the thickest and most popular...and these prints are still out there....and back in the day we got about $80.00 for a 20 x24 as described above...times have changed..and thermal inks are suppose to be good but alas they dont react to water or dog pee very well

DOG PEE :omg: well, at least I haven't had that misfortune!!!

Wow - that sounds like a very lengthy process. No wonder prices have been pushed to high.
