16K THX + Ziggy Bad Reaction

Tue Jan 15, 2008, 10:12 AM

Took our baby (that's Ziggy our kitten, now 14 1/2 weeks old) to the vet yesterday for his 3 month vaccs.  Unfortunately he had a bad reaction to Milbemax de-wormer, and flopped out all limp and slept for 10 hours flat. I had a neurotic paranoid fit. We were having really HOT weather - 36C, and Ziggy wasn't drinking nor eating anything; literally in another world - even by picking him up we couldn't wake him; he was just like a zombie.

Shame - the vet was super supportive, phoned me, e-mailed me and phoned again this morning! TG kitten is back to normal and sproinging around much better :boing::boing::boing: and also today it's overcast and drizzling, so I'm very relieved all round.

Have any of you experienced similar reactions to routine vet treatments?

We had a similar thing happen to Misha when we got her wormed. She slept for hours on end! She is fine now though. It took a few days to get out of her system though.

OMG, I just read this and nearly flipped out. I can't believe he had that bad of an effect. I've never had that experience and am so saddened to know you went through that. I can't imagine the tears that must have flowed and the prayers you must have prayed. You poor dear. I do hope he's continuing to be alright and out of any danger. Does the vet know what caused this kind of a reaction? Any chance of a repeat episode? I certainly hope not. :cuddle:

Awww, I really appreciate your empathy. It WAS awful and yes, the vet thinks it was the dewormer (Milbemax) - so next time round we'll make sure to use a different product with different ingredients. Thanks for caring; Ziggy's up and about and happy now.

 You are so welcome :) I sure hope he continues to get better and I look forward to more and more photos. Are you going to make a February calendar with his photo? I really love the January one. It's my desktop.

My cat once had a seizure... I was flipping out.

Shes a beautiful Persian, She doesn't have that smashed up face Persians have, and a pretty little line of a creme color going down her face... that looks like someone's pouring milk on her head, and she's drinking it. She takes very good pictures but I haven't had time to go through them. She has a personality like a human too. The vet kept going on about how beautiful she is while she was in the back with the aids.

That was one trip to the EV I'll never forget. xD

:omg: what an awful experience for you all. Poor kitty and poor you. I agree about those flat faces... don't like them at all. The "old fashioned" Persian is, to my mind, FAR prettier! Please post a few photos of yours, will you? Note me when you do that :-)
